Sox rally, but 'pen can't contain Orioles
Baltimore continues to haunt Okajima, who gives up lead

BOSTON -- If there was an area that had been performing above all others for
the Red Sox over the last couple of weeks, it was the bullpen, which had
become increasingly stingy.

But that trend went on temporary hiatus on Tuesday night when Hideki Okajima
-- brought on to hold Josh Beckett's two-run lead in the seventh -- couldn't
get the job done. Once Okajima handed the lead to Baltimore, the Red Sox never
got it back, falling, 10-6, on a hot and steamy evening at Fenway Park.

For whatever reason, most of Okajima's worst performances this season have
come against the Orioles. The lefty's ERA is 13.50 against the Orioles, and
0.40 vs. everyone else.

其他隊是0.40。

In this particular instance, however, it might not have mattered who he was
facing. The night was conducive to hitting as it was, and Okajima added to it,
leaving pitches in the meaty part of the strike zone. 

然而，這次不管他是遇上哪位打者了。昨晚的比賽一直都是打擊戰，岡島也添了一筆，
他把球投到好球帶裡鮮嫩可口的位置。

"This was one of those days where he just didn't have a good feel, couldn't get
the ball down," said Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek. "Today, it was more so he
just didn't execute his pitches. When he executes his pitches, he gives anybody
fits." 

「只是那種他就是沒有很好球感的晚上，沒辦法把球壓低。」紅襪隊捕手Jason Varitek

Okajima was unavailable for comment after the game. On this night, he wasn't
the only reliever who struggled.

But Okajima let it evaporate in a hurry in the top of the seventh.

"He was up with a lot of pitches and behind in the count," said Red Sox manager
Terry Francona.

With one out, Okajima walked Brian Roberts, served up a double to Nick Markakis
and walked Melvin Mora to load the bases. Aubrey Huff roped a two-run single
up the middle to tie the game. Kevin Millar followed with a sacrifice fly to
give the Orioles the lead back. 

一人出局時，岡島保送了Brian Roberts，被Nick Markakis打了一支二壘安打，又保送
了Melvin Mora擠成滿壘。Aubrey Huff打了一支兩分打點的一壘安打，扳平了比數。
Kevin Millar再添一支高飛犧牲打，替金鶯隊要回領先。

“You've got to wait him out," said Orioles manager Dave Trembley. "You can't
chase pitches off the plate. You've got to make him throw it over." 

「你必須要慢慢等他。」金鶯隊教練 Dave Trembley說：「你不能離開本壘板去追打。
你得要讓他丟過來。」

Coming into the contest, Boston relievers had posted a 1.94 ERA in the previous
16 games. 

在這場比賽之前，紅襪隊牛棚在最近16場比賽，ERA是1.94。

"We keep taking steps and getting better," Varitek said. "There was some good
about pitching right there. It wasn't all bad." 

「我們按部就班來，變的越來越好。」Varitek 說：「還是有些還不錯的球。不是都那
