The Orlando Magic have signed second round draft pick Zaza Pachulia
(42nd selection overall), General Manager John Gabriel announced today.
Per team policy, terms of the deals are not disclosed.
Pachulia (6’11”, 240, 2/10/84, PA-chul-e-ya) has played for Ulker
of Istanbul, at the top level of Turkey, since he was 15 years old
(since 1999). He helped Ulker to the 2001 and 2002 Turkish President's Cup.
Pachulia also helped them capture the 2001 Turkish National Championship.
A native of Tbilisi, Georgia, he has been a member of the Georgian Junior
National Team and a member of the Georgian Cadets National Team.
Last season, Pachulia played in 21 games as a 19-year-old, averaging
9.5 ppg. and 5.5 rpg., while shooting .575 from the floor. During the
last four seasons, he has averaged 6.0 ppg. and 3.8 rpg. in 73 contests
with Ulker.
In Pepsi Pro Summer League play (this past July 8-12), Pachulia
averaged 12.6 ppg. and 8.6 rpg. in 26.2 minpg. He ranked second to
Cleveland’s Carlos Boozer (9.5 rpg.) in rebounding during summer
league play.
