Nine years after failing to beat them in the playoffs, Shawn Kemp is seeking
employment with the Denver Nuggets.

The unrestricted free-agent forward met with Nuggets officials Wednesday as
he tries to find a team before training camp opens at the end of the month.

Denver has money to spend but is not likely to offer more than a minimum
contract to a player whose scoring average has been inversely proportional
to his playing weight in recent years.

A six-time All-Star and former Olympian, Kemp has seen his career spiral
downward since being traded to the Portland Trail Blazers before the 2000-01
season.

Relegated to a bench role in Portland, he averaged 6.5 points in two seasons
with the Blazers before agreeing to a contract buyout that allowed him to
sign with the Orlando Magic last summer.

Though Kemp, 33, showed flashes of a comeback in Orlando, his 280-pound
playing weight and 6.8 scoring average hardly were reminiscent of his
slam-dunking glory days with the Seattle SuperSonics.

Nuggets fans will best remember Kemp from the 1994 playoffs, when Denver
erased a 0-2 series deficit against Seattle to become the first No. 8 seed
in NBA history to upset the No. 1 seed.
