Point guard added to Orlando’s backcourt
Magic Sign Andre Barrett to 10-Day Contract
March 31, 2005, Orlando, FL – The Orlando Magic have signed free agent guard
Andre Barrett to a 10-day contract, General Manager John Weisbrod announced
today. He will be in uniform for Orlando’s game vs. Washington tomorrow night
(7 p.m. ET). In addition, the Magic have released guard Mark Jones from his
10-day contract.
Barrett (5’10”, 173, 2/21/82) played in 27 games this season with the
Houston Rockets, averaging 2.1 ppg. and 1.6 apg. in 11.6 minpg. He scored a
career-high 14 points on Dec. 7 vs. New Orleans and dished out a career-best
six assists vs. Dallas on Dec. 11. Barrett was waived by the Rockets on
Mar. 19.
Barrett spent four seasons at Seton Hall (2000-04), averaging 15.3 ppg.,
5.4 apg., 3.7 rpg. and 1.42 stlpg. in 122 career games (all starts). He
finished his collegiate career ranked on the Pirates’ all-time list in
minutes played (1st, 4,296), assists (2nd, 662), three-point field goals made
(3rd, 244) and points (7th, 1,861). As a senior (2003-04), he was named First
Team All-Big East, after averaging 17.3 ppg., 5.9 apg., 3.9 rpg. and 1.42
stlpg. in 31 outings. Barrett was also named All-America Honorable Mention by
the Associated Press.
Jones appeared in four games with Orlando, averaging 2.0 ppg. in 7.8 minpg.
He had signed a 10-day contract on Mar. 23, after spending 41 games with the
Great Lakes Storm of the CBA.
