L. PATT FRANCIOSI, PhD
PRESIDENT
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
WORLD FEDERATION FOR MENTAL HEALTH
L. Patt Franciosi, Ph. D. assumed the position as President of the Board of
Directors of the World Federation for Mental Health at the organization's
General Assembly meeting in Melbourne, Australia, 24 February 2003. During her
tenure as a member of the WFMH Board since 1995, Dr. Franciosi served as Chair
of the World Mental Health Day Committee and as President-elect from July 2000
until the beginning of her term as President.
Prior to her election to the Board of Directors of WFMH, Dr. Franciosi held
a number of leadership positions in the voluntary mental health movement in the
United States, serving as President of the Mental Health Association in
Minnesota, Vice-President for Financial Development and as President of the
National Mental Health Association, and as Chair of the National Prevention
Coalition (US).
Dr. Franciosi has received two Presidential appointments: one to the
National Institute of Mental Health Advisory Council and the other to the
United States Health and Human Services Secretary's Council on Promotion and
Disease Prevention. She has received numerous awards for her work in mental
health advocacy, particularly in the area of children's mental health. In 1990,
she mobilized a national effort in the United States to promote improved care
and treatment for children with mental and emotional problems, which resulted
in substantial increases in government funding for research and services for
children.
Originally trained in psychiatric nursing, Dr. Franciosi holds a PhD in
Clinical Psychology from Marquette University, where she has worked with young
adults.
Dr. Franciosi and her husband, Dr. Ralph Franciosi, reside in Mequon,
Wisconsin.
