The Suns players have never bought into Porter's ways since a rocky beginning
at training camp, when he came in with sweeping changes on both sides of the
ball. The players had asked for more of a defensive emphasis but resisted a
half-court style based on the Detroit Pistons offense that did not fit the
personnel, particularly Steve Nash. The players had asked for a firmer way
but did not like how old-school Porter went on them. To this day, no Suns
player has spoken on behalf of Porter.
Porter上任之後立即在攻守兩端全面改革，而自從艱難的季前訓練營
之後，球員們就再也不買Porter的帳了。
球員們希望加強防守，但對新的進攻系統有所抗拒。因為Porter採用

The hard part about firing Porter for the Suns is his contract. Porter signed
a three-year deal worth about $7 million. That's a lot of salary to eat for
an organization that is cutting corners, expecting season ticket renewal
drops and considering trading a 26-year-old star to get some long-term luxury
tax relief. That is why the Kerr replacement theory gets brought up so often.
He already is paid like a head coach, eliminating the need to spend heavily
on a new coach.
讓Porter走人的困難之處在於他的合約，三年七百萬美元。對於正在
削減開支的太陽隊來說，這是一筆不小的數目，尤其是季票銷量下跌，而
且他們正在想辦法交易Amare Stoudemire以減低未來的豪華稅。這就是為
什麼有一堆謠言說Kerr將要接替總教練，這樣就不必再花一筆錢在新教練
身上。
