[外電] Suns' Barbosa to miss 1 to 3 weeks

Suns guard Leandro Barbosa will be out of game action for one to three weeks
after suffering a bone contusion in his left knee during Wednesday night's
win against Philadelphia.

Barbosa planted his left leg awkwardly in the final minute of Wednesday's
first quarter, hyperextending his left knee inward as he ran past the basket
and looked back at a driving layup attempt that was blocked. Barbosa was
helped off the floor and had a negative X-ray Wednesday before undergoing a
MRI exam today.

Suns head athletic trainer Aaron Nelson said Barbosa did not suffer any
ligament damage but the MRI did show a bone contusion to the top side of the
tibia, where the femur came down and connected upon hyperextension. Nelson
said Barbosa was fortunate that it was a straight-in hyperextension, which is
good for the ligaments, and that he got a step down before hyperextending so
that it did not take his full body weight.

Barbosa can work out on a stationary bike or the training pool but nothing of
impact to the knee will be allowed for a week. In a best-case scenario,
Barbosa could play at Portland next Thursday. If it winds up being three
weeks, Barbosa would miss 10 of the Suns' final 14 games in their playoff
chase.

"Anything that will cause the bone to get more action could cause more pain,"
Nelson said. "We've got to let that calm down."

Barbosa, 26, was averaging 19.1 points and 3.7 assists since interim coach
Alvin Gentry took over at the All-Star break until Wednesday's appearance
lasted one minute and 48 seconds. He had averaged 12.8 points and 2.0 assists
before the break, when he took four fewer shots per game.

In his absence Wednesday, Jason Richardson scored all 25 of his points after
Barbosa went out and Alando Tucker and Grant Hill also spent time at shooting
guard.
