The writing was on the wall in the Suns' locker room for Dan Dickau and
Carlos Powell.

Though other players have the personalized purple metallic nameplates over
their stalls, Dickau and Powell had a piece of athletic tape with their names
handwritten.

Dickau and Powell只有自己手寫的牌子.....

They knew their chances to make the Suns roster were slim when they arrived
for voluntary workouts last month. It made the gut punch of reality no softer
late Tuesday when they were cut after the Suns' 143-127 preseason win over
Sacramento at US Airways Center.

他們知道擠進太陽名單的機會不大

In the Suns' first rotation rehearsal for next week's season opener, Channing
Frye scored 29 points, Goran Dragic bounced back with a 21-point,
eight-rebound game, and coach Alvin Gentry used the expected 10-player mix in
the first half.

The rotation took hits in the third quarter. Grant Hill was ejected after he
felt Andres Nocioni tried to slide a foot under his oft-injured foot and
ankle. Hill still was upset from a play moments earlier, when Steve Nash was
swept like a soccer player and suffered a right-ankle sprain that is not
serious.

The Suns have the minimum 13-man roster like in recent years. Adding Dickau
or Powell would have cost more money at a time they are considering adding a
big man.

太陽今年應該會是13人輪值

但放Dickau 或 Powell會花$$

所以可能會放大個子~

Center Robin Lopez is out because of a foot fracture but it is healing well,
and the Suns seem to be interested in adding a big man only if he would be a
rotation player.

Dickau and Powell received kudos from the staff. Dickau runs a team well and
was a good fit for practices this month.

"This is my first option," Dickau said before the game. "This situation
offensively fits me very well. It just comes down to what they want to do
with the other roster spots - fill them or keep them open."

Dickau's best opportunities came in practice when he played with regulars.
Powell got a start at Portland last week and had 12 first-quarter points.

Dickau is trying to resume a six-year NBA career after a year away, when he
started in Italy, tried out with Golden State and ended up in Germany. Powell
is trying to earn an NBA name, having come out of South Carolina in 2005 as a
"tweener" who had to learn the small-forward spot.

Powell starred in the NBA Development League two years ago but is trying to
disprove his reputation for having a need to score. Once told he would have
to be a specialist in the pros, Powell does several things well and said, "I
specialize in being aggressive and toughness."

"I think I've played well, not great but well," Powell said. "I think I've
shown people I belong here.

"That year (2007-08 in the D-League) took a toll on me mentally. I played
very good basketball and didn't get a call-up. If things don't work, that
looks like it might be where I head again."
