Sebsatian Telfair, P.J. Tucker doing the Phoenix Suns’ defensive dirty work

太妃跟塔克組成太陽髒活二人組

With a Suns defense that ranks last in the NBA in opponent
field-goal percentage, a tandem such as Sebastian Telfair
and P.J. Tucker stands out like a pair of bright stars
between clouds in a night sky.

太陽對手的命中率在全聯盟排名第一，但這時候太妃跟塔克這對搭
檔挺身而出，就好比烏雲密布的夜空中突然出現閃亮的兩顆星一樣。

The Suns have found their most intensive defensive effort
from a duo that could not have been pegged for that when
Telfair entered the league with the reputation as a scoring
playmaker and Tucker barely had a reputation in a 17-game
stint six seasons ago.

這對太陽最給力的防守組合在他們一開始進入NBA時並不是這麼一回
事，太妃剛進入NBA被認為是會得分又會傳球的雙能衛，另一方面六
個賽季前只打了十七場球的塔克則是幾乎沒有半點名聲。

The Suns are not among the NBA’s worst defenses because of
Telfair and Tucker, the Suns’ TNT bench dynamite.

太陽的防守並不在聯盟倒數必須要歸功於太妃跟塔克這對TNT板凳暴
徒。 ("T"ELFAIR N "T"UCKER !!!!)

“With how I play and how he plays, you can’t do anything
but take your game up another level as far as intensity and
energy and making it tough for people,” Tucker said.
“Bassy (Telfair) works so hard on guards to turn them over.
When you see a guy working like that, you can’t do anything
but work as hard to match his energy. It’s a monkey-see,
monkey-do thing.”

塔克說我跟太妃的球風就是讓比賽進入另一種節奏，強度更高、更有
能量、也讓對手球員感到難受。太妃盡量迫使對方後衛發生失誤，當
你看到一位球員那麼努力，你能做的就是更加的努力去回應他，這就
是有樣學樣。

What Telfair lacks in size, he makes up for in tenacity.
Telfair is an irritant to opposing point guards and has earned
such a reputation for defense that coach Alvin Gentry turned
to him to cover Dallas’ top scorer, O.J. Mayo, when Tucker
was out injured.

太妃靠著他不屈不撓的韌性彌補了身材上的不足。讓對手後衛覺得他就
像喉嚨中的魚刺，當塔克因傷缺賽的期間他被簡崔教練指派去防守小牛
的頭號得分手MAYO這也表示他的防守受到肯定。

That trust shows that Telfair has come a long way from the
beginning of last season, when he lost the backup point-guard
job for a stretch to Ronnie Price.

簡崔教練的信任說明了太妃自從去年開季被PRICE奪走替補後衛後的努力。

“It was a good thing that, when I first got here, I was put
on the bench,” Telfair said. “It showed me that you’ve got
to be a consistent worker, winning or losing, here to stay on
the floor. You’ve got to earn confidence with your teammates,
just like your coaches.”

太妃說當他來到鳳凰城，他認為從板凳出發是件好事(畢竟先發是老大)，
這也告訴我不論輸贏只要在場上就必須要成為一位穩定的球員，你必須
要跟隊友建立信心，就好比教練建立隊球員們的信心一樣。

That was with his defense while he adjusted his style to the
Suns’ offensive system. Now, when Telfair picks up an opposing
point guard in the backcourt, Tucker knows what to do.

他除了調整自己進攻的風格，防守也是一樣，現在太妃只要對上對方的
後衛球員，塔克就知道他自己應該要做甚麼事。

“Then I can’t let my man catch the ball at all,” Tucker said.
“If he does, it’s pointless. He might as well just run back
if I’m going to let him throw it to the wing. For me, it’s
denying the wing and not allowing the backdoor and making them
go completely out of their play. The percentage goes way down
on the team scoring when you do that.”

塔克說在太妃對上對方的後衛時，他必須要試著別讓他防守的球員去接球，
即便他拿到球，也要讓他不容易得分，他可能就會再把球傳回去；如果我
選擇讓他傳到兩邊，那我就會試著去阻止側邊的切入以及避免被開後門，讓
他們不能順利執行他們的戰術，如果我們做到這些，對方的命中率就會下降。

Telfair and Tucker knew they would be this way since September,
when they talked about what they could as a defensive tandem
during the team’s voluntary workouts.

太妃跟塔克從九月他們在自主練習時討論到說他們可以朝隊上的防守雙人
組合的方向努力。

Their goal is for their energy to transcend to the rest of the
defense. They have had some moving parts around them to establish
that defensive chemistry but having Jermaine O’Neal consistently
behind them as an enforcer has helped the cause. O’Neal posted
multiple-block games in 10 of his 14 games (entering Monday)
since returning from his aunt’s funeral. He had 13 multi-block
games last season.

他們的目標是用他們的能量去帶動其他人的防守，靠著他們兩個間的配合，
建立了團隊的防守能量，但是有小歐在他們背後穩穩的支持著對這點有很大
的幫助。小歐從他親戚的喪禮回來後的十四場比賽中，有十場的送出至少兩
鍋麻辣鍋的表現，他去年整年也只有十三場比賽有此表現。

It has been fun for Telfair to be on the other side of a targeting
defense. He always sought steals and had a competitive nature but
he realizes that channeling that into a shut-down mentality has
kept him in the rotation.

對太妃來說進攻是有趣的，他總是很好鬥也試著去抄球快攻，但是他了解到
他必須要專注於防守對手，這樣他才能夠繼續留在場上。

“I’m out there denying the ball from guys where they aren’t
getting as many touches,” Telfair said. “I like to see that
frustration. It makes a guy do something different than he does
every night. They push me plenty. I just get in a guy, lean on
them, put my weight on, put my hands on them, hold them. They don’t
like that at all. They’ll let you know, ‘When I get it, I’m scoring,”
 so it feels good when I shut them down.”

太妃說我上場就是要阻止傳球，盡量別讓對手去接觸球。我喜歡看他們感到挫
折，這會迫使他們去做些他們平常不會做的事。他們都硬要吃我，而我就只是
選擇一位球員，緊跟著他對他施加壓力並伸手干擾他，他們通常不喜歡這樣，
他們會讓你知道你越是這樣我越要得分，所以當我守住他們那種感覺更棒。


After being away from the NBA, Tucker relishes the role even after
being a go-to scorer for overseas teams for years.

在離開NBA後，塔克效力於國外的幾支球隊，他甚至當過球隊的頭號得分手。

“It’s a pleasure when you get a guy mad,” Tucker said. “When
they’re fussing and there’s a little talking and you’re getting
under their skin, you want to keep doing it just to completely take
them out of their games. That’s a part of taking over games to win.”

塔克說當你讓對方感到很不爽是件很爽的事，當他們感到困擾並有所抱怨時，
你又像個影子黏在他旁邊，試著去完成自己的任務讓他打不出屬於他們自己的
球風，這也是讓球隊贏球的方法之一。


防守是奪冠的不二法門，我想在前幾年的跑轟過後，我們需要更多的防守
能量，希望這對TNT組合加上小歐能夠帶給太陽更多的驚喜。
