why a tribute to Pavement? "Everything is ending here" is my way to pay homage to one of the greatest bands in the history of music. However, in these introdutive lines, I don't want to spend too many words remembering how pavement changed the music scene throughout the 90s with their really cool and fresh sound and attitude because this compilation is born first of all from my love for a band that personally influences my life in a really strong way. Some Pavement songs are directly bound to exact moments in my life...I was one of the hundreds of indie kids at the start of the 90s and Pavement, for me, was thee band. I will never forget the first time I heard their music and who introduced me to that incredible spond (thank you Dodo!). I will never forget how excited I was to come back home from the record shop with a new Pavement album under my arm. I'll never forget when I saw them playing live for the first time. I had a terrible temoerature but I couldn't miss them. I will never forget the very first time I had a chance to use the internet and the first thing I typed into the search engine was the word Pavement. I will never forget when I first heard of the split. It was after a gig of yuppie flu and quickspace when we went to a restaurant and Sean from Quickspace, who a couple of years later will become one of my best friends and one of my labelmates, told me the big news...well, it was traumatic...as if someone was telling me that my parents were about to divorce. Finally, I will never forget when on January 10th 2002 I received an e-mail from Spiral Stairs telling me he was approving my idea for releasing this tribute album with the phrase- "Thanks for the kind words for me and Pavement. I'd be honoured to have you do a tribute compilation." From that moment on I started to contact the bands that are now a part of this tribute, trying to put together a collection of recordings from artists that have shown the same desire I had to pay their respects to one of the most influential bands ever. This has been the toughest album homesleep has ever tried to release-so many bands to co-ordinate, so many bands asking to join the tribute-sadly not all of whom we have been able to accommodate...but the results have been overwhelming and something we are very proud of. Huge thanks go out to all the bands involved. "Guys, you've done such a good work!" My last words here go out to Pavement. Please consider this album a personal thank you for all those incredible sensations and feelings I have felt and I still feel whenever I hear your music.
