Oldenburg
The Oldenburg Institute for Information Technology (OFFIS) in Germany is
seeking excellent candidates for a PhD / Post doc position with strong
background in in the field of Multimedia Information Retrieval.

Information and communication technologies are changing the daily life. For a
long time now, the computer is personal means of working, communication,
learning, entertainment and more, be at the workplace, at home or on the move.
The Oldenburg Institute for Information Technology (OFFIS), located in
Oldenburg in the northwest of Germany, researches new forms of computer-based
information processing in hardware and software systems and transfers the
results into application-oriented developments. Institutions and industries
use this worldwide. The research and development division Multimedia and
Internet Information Services is researching key technologies of these
developments. One of the research interests is focussing on semantic
retrieval of multimedia data addressing topics such as:
‧ Content- and context based analysis and enrichment of digital images
‧ Geographic Web information retrieval for location based Web search
‧ Automatic indexing and usage of non-textual e-learning documents
‧ Individualized search in digital media

For the strengthening of our team, we are looking for a Research Assistant.
Applicants hold an excellent master degree (or equivalent) in computer
science or closely related field and have several years of experience in
application oriented research in the area of multimedia retrieval or related
areas. A PhD is helpful but not mandatory. You are active, curious and willing
to move things forward. Fluency in English and good knowledge of German or
strong willingness to learn it quickly is expected.

with around 150.000 inhabitants. With regard to computer science, the
University of Oldenburg has a strong department with 18 faculty members
and around 800 stundents in BSc, MSc and PhD programmes. Associated
with the university is the Oldenburg Institute for Information Technology
(OFFIS) which is a dynamic research institute with international orientation.
