The Pervasive Interaction Technology Lab (pIT Lab) at IT University of
Copenhagen (ITU), Denmark, has the following vacancy for a 3-year PhD
student position:
Seamless integration of wearable computers and public displays for mobile
collaboration in a hospital setting
Application deadline: October 14 2011
Project description
-------------------
This project targets the development and evaluation of interaction
technology for wearable computers and public displays with a focus on
acute and surgical environments inside hospitals. Specific focus will be
paid on mixed-reality session establishment (activities typically involve
a range of real-world objects, interactive devices, and digital
information), multimodal interaction, and context-sensitive user
interface adaptation. A wearable system prototype that provides activity
support both at an individual level and in collaborative settings will be
designed and evaluated together with hospital partners. The project is
part of the iCareNet research project (www.icarenet.eu) simultaneously
engaging 19 PhD students in 7 different European countries.
Requirements
------------
Other than fulfilling the general requirements for performing a PhD at the
IT University of Copenhagen (see link to the "general ITU PhD Fall 2011
call" at the end of this text), the student should have a background in
one or more of computer science, human-computer interaction,
ubiquitous/pervasive computing, interaction design, or related fields.
The ideal applicant should have both the necessary technological
expertise for developing context-aware prototypes as well as experience
in evaluating interactive systems in lab and real-world settings.
Important additional requirement: in order to apply for the this iCareNet
scholarship the EU Marie Curie program requires applicants to fulfil the
"mobility" criteria. In this case, it means that at the time of
selection, the PhD candidate may not have resided or carried out his/her
main activity in Denmark for more than 12 months in the 3 years
immediately prior to his/her appointment. Short stays such as holidays
are not taken into account. More info at www.icarenet.eu
