Phd position at University of Oldenburg: Visual Interactive Exploration of
Geo-Located Infrastructure and Facilities, Computer Science
The Department of Computer Science at Oldenburg University (Germany) has an
open Phd position in the Media Informatics and Multimedia Systems group of
Prof. Dr. Susanne Boll [1].
We are looking for a young researcher for a research project in the field
of Visual Analytics. The concrete research topic, we aim at investigating
methods for retrieving geo-spatially related information of different types
and from different sources, integrating these into novel visualizations
that are easily to interpret by a human. Going beyond map-based points and
region clusters, we aim at developing methods for the integration and
intuitive visualization for relevant aspects of the geo-spatial
availability of services and infrastructure such as spreading and
distribution, sparseness and density, reachability and connectivity. The
research project is funded by the DFG (Geman National Science Foundation)
and will be part of a network of projects under the so called priority
program "Scalable Visual Analytics: Interactive Visual Analysis Systems of
Complex Information Spaces" [2].
You should be highly motivated and posses the competence to work
independently in a team of researchers in the field of Semantic Retrieval
and Human Computer Interaction. Furthermore, we expect an outstanding M.Sc.
or Diploma in Computer Science or a related discipline. German language
skills or the strong willingness to acquire German are appreciated.
The University of Oldenburg is located in the North West of Germany. As a
dynamic university city Oldenburg has a distinct sense of personality and a
unique quality of life offering many cultural and free time possibilities
[3]. Oldenburg is located near Bremen and Hamburg with the North Sea only
few kilometres away.
On offer is a full-time position on the E13 TV-L salary scale. The
position is also suited for part-time work. The position will be limited to
2 years initially, but it can be extended. The starting date is negotiable,
beginning with October 1st, 2011. The Carl von Ossietzky University is an
