Time to dust off the suitcases, break out the road jerseys and return to
typical NBA life.

The Pistons will say bye-bye to Michigan's gray skies this week with games
Tuesday in Oklahoma City against New Orleans and Thursday in San Antonio.

The NBA leaders were home for most of the past three weeks, playing eight of
nine games at the Palace. Their only away game during the holiday season was a
quick jaunt to Cleveland, Detroit's closest opponent, geographically.

After losing to the Utah Jazz on Saturday night, point guard Chauncey Billups
said it's not a bad time to go on the road.

on the road for the simple fact that we enjoy being with each other and
stepping out on the floor," Wallace said. "But everybody enjoys playing at home
. You get to sleep in your own bed, you get a chance to get to go through your
own routine."

What will be good, at least in Saunders' eyes, will be returning to the typical
rhythm of NBA life. The Pistons played 12 of their first 18 games on the road,
then came home.

BIG SLIP: The Pistons' final play Saturday was one Billups would like back. The
Jazz led by four, and the Pistons naturally went to Billups to try to cut it to
one or two. But Billups slipped, nearly lost the ball and forced a mid-range
shot he doesn't typically take. "It was a high pick-and-roll, and I tried to
turn that corner and I slipped down," Billups said. "I had to get the ball and
make the play. I would have liked for that to go a little different, and I know
we would have got a better shot than that."

ROOKIE LOVE: Rookie guard Alex Acker smiled after the Pistons' loss Saturday.
He wasn't happy about the result, of course, but because he'd heard his
contract had become guaranteed. "That's what someone told me," Acker said. "I'm
very happy." Acker was the 60th overall pick in June's NBA draft and signed a
contract that can't be guaranteed until Tuesday. But teams must first place a
player on waivers for two business days, and Acker's name wasn't on the waiver
wire Friday. Acker will make almost $400,000 this season.
