PHILADELPHIA -- Ben Wallace's presence is such that, when he's feeling
something, whether he verbalizes it or not, the rest of his teammates feel it,
too.

Thus, when Wallace was bitterly disappointed when the Pistons' defense went
soft though the first couple of weeks of this month, he didn't have to say a
word.

After giving up an average of more than 100 points over a seven-game stretch,
the Pistons' defense has again gone into lock-down mode. They have allowed an
average of just 78 over the five games before Wednesday's 101-91 victory at
Philadelphia. The Pistons kept Miami, Indiana and New Jersey all under 80
points.
    在結束了讓對手平均得分破百的七場比賽之後，活塞的防守終於再一次回復固若金湯

When we don't, we can be pretty ordinary. And Ben is usually the catalyst for
that energy."

Earlier in the season, when the Pistons were compiling a 37-5 record, Wallace
warned that the team was showing signs of losing its edge. This time, he held
his tongue and let his actions speak. He had four steals and three blocks
against Atlanta. Three steals and a game-saving block at Indiana. He had five
blocks against New Jersey.
    季初當活塞締造37勝5敗的優異戰績時，班蛙就提出警告說球隊正逐漸展現出疲態。這

"It's just more fun when we play defense," he said. "We get stops and force
turnovers and that leads to easy baskets for everybody in transition. That's
what we established earlier in the year. They say what you establish early you

defense."

This year, Pistons president Joe Dumars isn't holding his breath.

For the second year in a row, he has been nominated for enshrinement in the
Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. Last year, he was led to believe he would be
getting in and it didn't happen.

"I had to ask my wife when they were making the announcement," he said. "I had

he expected a large contingent from his hometown, Coatesville, just a few miles
outside of Philadelphia.
