With the possible exception of Andres Nocioni, who still appeared shell-shocked over what he called "my worst game as a Chicago Bull," their collective mood was a reflection the weather: Hey, it's a new day and a nice day, so let's put yesterday behind us. "We was like De La Hoya. We got beat up pretty bad. But the only thing you can do after a game like that is go home and get a good night's sleep," Ben Wallace said. "You compete in this league, and sometimes you're going to get beat. Was it a slap in the face? More like a punch in the throat." Wallace might have been the loosest of any of the Bulls, quipping to reporters for the second straight day that he's still interested in selling one of us his still-unsold Detroit home. (Wallace noted it has six bedrooms, but no basketball court.) Seeing how goofy he was and all, I asked him which NBA player is most likely to resemble Floyd Mayweather Sr. 20 years from now. Ben voted for Marquis Daniels of the Indiana Pacers, while my choices were Troy Hudson and Mikki Moore). Scott Skiles was not obsessing over the loss either, noting that the Bulls have typically been resilient after their missteps, most recently when they followed their season-ending loss at New Jersey, which cost them the No. 2 seed, with four straight victories over the Miami Heat. "We always respond. That's our history. That's what we do. The issue is, if we respond, can we beat them if they're playing at that high of a level again," Skiles said. "Even if we had the whole day off today, I know we'd come out and play better tomorrow. The question, though, is whether better is good enough. We're playing a great team here, and so we have to be exceptional, and not just better than we were." Skiles seemed perplexed by the preponderance of mental mistakes, including five or six instances where the ball went to Ben Wallace while he was tightly guarded in the low post with less than six seconds left on the shot clock when guards were standing open on the perimeter. Nocioni had no suitable explanation for his performance, which included three turnovers in rapid succession shortly after he entered the game late in the first quarter. "They played harder than us, a little bit better than us, but it was the first game, we don't need to think about that. Personally, it was terrible. It was my worst game as a Chicago Bull, and it was not the right moment to have this kind of game, but that's it. Right now we need to think about the next game. It's a long series, and I know this series needs someone to change the rhythm of the game. Last night was the perfect moment for me to do something for my team, but I didn't. So I don't know. It's just the first game. That's the best thing," Nocioni said.
