"I take a lot of pride in being on that team that brings (dominance) back home,
" Billups told the Denver Post. "We have the best players in the world, and we
haven't been able to prove that. I'm excited for the opportunity."
The three-day minicamp that began Friday will help team managing director Jerry
Colangelo pick the 12-man squad that will compete at the FIBA Americas
Championship. The top two teams out of a field of 10 in that tournament --
running from Aug. 22 to Sept. 2 in Las Vegas -- will qualify for the 2008
Summer Olympic Games in Beijing.
Joining Billups is teammate Tayshaun Prince, who was added to the roster in
May. Unlike Billups, Prince is not a lock to make the team that competes in the
FIBA Tournament. The 12 finalists for that team are expected to be announced at
the camp's completion.
