LOS ANGELES -- Before most games, you'll find Antonio McDyess in the trainer's
room getting rubbed down. During games, he'll occasionally get treatments to
stay loose in between timeouts or when he's on the bench.

"I'm getting old," McDyess said recently.

Maybe so, but the veteran forward is still holding his own on the floor.

Detroit remains one of the league's top defensive teams, and McDyess' interior
presence has had a lot to do with that. He's also averaging a team-best nine
rebounds per game, the most he has averaged as a Piston.

"McDyess, he's been huge for us this season," Pistons point guard Chauncey
Billups said recently. "He's that one guy that teams sometimes forget about.
But we don't. Everyone on this team knows how much he means to us winning, and
staying an elite team."

That's why Joe Dumars identified signing the veteran forward to a two-year
extension this summer, as one of his top priorities. He'll make just under $6.4
million this season, and will make $6.8 million each of the next two seasons.

McDyess said it didn't take a lot of convincing on the Pistons' part for him to

"Everybody knew this is where I wanted to be," he said. "This is a great group
of guys, a great championship-caliber team. For me, that's pretty much what I
want at this point in my career."

In his first season as a starter in Detroit, McDyess has produced starter-like

Making McDyess' play even more remarkable is that just a few years ago a series
of knee injuries had the former All-star and Olympic Gold medalist seriously

"My focus this year is the same as it has been ever since I've been here, and

winning one with McDyess, one of his closest friends would make it even more
special.

On track to 50

Barring a major late season collapse, the Pistons will celebrate their 50th
season of basketball in Detroit, with a seventh consecutive season with 50 or
more wins. "It's great," Pistons guard Richard Hamilton said. "It just shows
what a great job Joe D. (president of basketball operations) has done, keep
putting together good teams." In addition to 50 wins, the Pistons are also on
pace to win the Central division for a fourth consecutive season -- a franchise
first.
除非球季末段嚴重崩盤，活塞將以連續第七個至少50勝的球季來慶祝他們搬遷至底特

championships. It doesn't really matter what our record is, or how we did in
the division. We're all about getting that ring, know what I mean?"
