IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY FOR AMC EXAMINATION
From the 1st July 2007, the English Language Proficiency requirement will no
longer be a prerequisite for AMC candidates in order to commence the AMC
examination process. Any candidate who undertakes an MCQ examination
AFTER the 1st July 2007 is not required to fulfil the English Language
Proficiency requirements for eligibility to sit the examination.
However, English Language Proficiency is a formal requirement for registration
in Australia. The AMC advises that in order for International Medical
Graduates (IMG's) to obtain registration through one of the State/Territory
Medical Boards, the English Language Proficiency requirements still remain
valid. IMGS's who are intending to apply for registration in Australia should
view the National Policy on English Language Proficiency requirements for
International Medical Graduates. This policy is available
on the AMC website and the websites of the State/Territory Medical Boards.
You must also be aware that the State/Territory Medical Boards enforce
the 2 year time limit which is applicable to both the Occupational English Test
(OET) and the IELTS. For more information on the English Language Proficiency
requirements for registration, you must contact the relevant State/Territory
Medical Board.
