SURPRISE, ARIZONA (TICKER) —The Texas Rangers signed veteran righthander Kris
Benson to a minor-league contract Saturday.
Benson, 34, spent last season in the Philadelphia Phillies’minor-league
organization after recovering from rotator cuff and elbow surgery that caused
him to miss the 2007 campaign.
The seven-year veteran went 1-4 with 5.52 ERA in 11 starts for Class AAA Leigh
Valley of the International League.
The first overall pick of the 1996 draft by Pittsburgh, Benson is 68-73 with a
4.34 ERA in 195 games with the Pirates, the New York Mets and Baltimore.
