ARLINGTON -- With the World Series behind them, the Rangers have no time to
rest. Free agency is here and the Rangers are going to be busy.

For the first time in several years, the Rangers will have money to spend.
They are not sure how much, but the term "severe financial constraints" no
longer applies. So says the new ownership group under CEO Chuck Greenberg.

"We don't have a formal budget number yet, but I've got a general idea of
what it's going to be -- and it'll definitely be north of where we've been
the last couple years," general manager Jon Daniels said. "I can't tell you
exactly how much north it will be at this point, but yeah, I would expect
we'll have the ability to be more active than we have been the last few years.
"

Daniels made it clear that the Rangers need to address their own free agents
first. The big one is Cliff Lee. The Rangers want to keep him and he has
publicly said he wants to stay here. It won't be easy. He is 32 and easily
the best free-agent pitcher on the market. The Yankees are among the teams
expected to be interested.

Vladimir Guerrero is also high on the list. His contract calls for a mutual
option, which means either side could decline it and make him a free agent.
It's an interesting call for both sides.

Guerrero, who turns 36 in February, hit .300 with 29 home runs and 115 RBI
for the Rangers this season. That, on the face of it, is enough to want him
back. But his OPS dropped from .918 before the All-Star break to .748
afterward. He hit .220 with a .271 slugging percentage in the playoffs.

The Rangers want a big bat in the middle of the lineup.
They love Guerrero's presence, but they have to decide if he still has
another big year in him.

Another crucial area is catcher. Both Matt Treanor and Bengie Molina are
free agents. Molina is talking about retiring. Taylor Teagarden will be back,
but the Rangers will look for catching help no matter what.

的答案，所以條子勢必得去考慮補手補強這一塊

The last big free agent is Frank Francisco, who has been a significant part
of their bullpen for the past four years, pitching in 224 games with a 3.81
ERA, 32 saves, an opponent's batting average of .229 and 249 strikeouts in
225 innings. The Rangers missed him in the playoffs when he was injured --
and will miss him if he doesn't return.

Catcher: There are some prominent names on the free-agent market.
John Buck stands out after a career year in Toronto. The Rangers were
interested a year ago and will be again. Other free-agent catchers of note
include Victor Martinez, Ramon Hernandez, A.J. Pierzynski, Gerald Laird,
Rod Barajas and Yorvit Torrealba.

難道Laird要回鍋嗎？但我也不認為他是條子的答案就是

Right-handed relief: With Francisco gone, the Rangers' right-handed
relievers include O'Day, Alexi Ogando and Lowe. The Rangers will likely
look at adding at least one more power arm to the mix. Joaquin Benoit will
be back on the market and Kerry Wood could be of interest as a Texas native.

Big bat: If Guerrero doesn't come back, the Rangers will have a void in
their lineup -- unless Julio Borbon plays every day in center and
David Murphy becomes the DH. If they start throwing around the word
presence, the Rangers could look at Paul Konerko, Adam Dunn, Manny Ramirez
and Aubrey Huff.

如果老葛不回來，Konerko，Dunn，Ramirez，Huff都是不錯的人選 (Konerko不錯=.=)
