1. Rangers Win First Pennant
Oct. 22: Rangers players celebrate after a 6-1 win over the Yankees in Game 6
of the ALCS, giving the club its first pennant. Michael Young spoke the words
fans of the franchise had waited half a century to hear: "The World Series is
coming to Texas."
2. Rangers Beat Rays, Advance
Oct. 12: Cliff Lee is congratulated after Texas' victory over Tampa in Game 5
of the ALDS at Tropicana Field. Lee struck out 11 and outdueled Rays ace
David Price for the second time as the Rangers won their first playoff series.
3. Cruz Booms Yankees
Sept. 10: Nelson Cruz points to the Rangers dugout after hitting a
game-winning home run in the bottom of the 13th inning against the Yankees.
Cruz had also connected in the eighth to tie the score in a game in which an
AL-record 19 pitchers were used.
4. New Ownership, New Life
Aug. 13: Josh Hamilton scores from second on an infield hit by Vladimir
Guerrero, keying the Rangers' comeback win over Boston. The rally was capped
by Nelson Cruz's walk-off shot in the 11th and came in the first official
game under new ownership.
5. Victories On, Off The Field
Aug. 4-5: A group led by Chuck Greenberg and Nolan Ryan win an auction for
the Rangers, topping a $600 million bid by Mark Cuban. The winning bid came
about the same time that Michael Young's grand slam secured the Rangers' 11-6
win at Seattle.
6. Rangers Snag Lee
July 9: After talks between the Mariners and Yankees crumble, the Rangers
jump in and reach agreement on a trade for Cliff Lee. Texas parted with 1B
Justin Smoak and minor leaguers Blake Beavan, Josh Lueke and Matthew Lawson
for Lee and Mark Lowe.
7. Moreland's Epic Battle
Oct. 30: Mitch Moreland's homer from the No. 9 spot lifts the Rangers in Game
3 of the World Series. The rookie battled the Giants' Jonathan Sanchez for
eight pitches before lining the ninth offering over the right-field fence in
the second inning.
8. Cantu Hands Rangers AL West
Sept. 25: The Rangers clinch the AL West in Oakland thanks to a memorable
game from Jorge Cantu. The first baseman's first home run with his new team
since being acquired on June 29 broke a 3-3 tie and ended the Angels'
three-year run as division champs.
9. Treanor Sinks Marlins
June 15: Rangers catcher Matt Treanor slides into third base after hitting a
two-run triple in the ninth inning at Florida. The 3-2 comeback win against
Treanor's former team was the third of what would turn into an 11-game
winning streak for the Rangers.
10. Bengie Rides The Cycle
July 16: Rangers catcher Bengie Molina hits an unlikely cycle against the Red
Sox at Fenway Park. Molina, who had a grand slam earlier, completed his feat
in the eighth inning, hitting to the deepest part of Fenway for a stand-up
triple.
