Tanner Scheppers, RHP 2010 Rank: 39 Drafted: 2009, 1st (44) ETA in Majors: 2011 Statistically speaking: In his first 27 innings of work in 2010, all in relief, Scheppers was virtually unhittable. He allowed just three earned runs on 12 hits, walking 10 and striking out 42. That was good for a 1.00 ERA and .130 batting average against. Scouting report: Scheppers has the stuff to be a frontline starter or a premium short reliever. His plus fastball touches the upper 90s and even gains another few ticks when he's pitching in relief. He's got two breaking balls, both of which are above-average. He has a changeup, but it will need to improve if he wants to be a starter, long-term. He'll also need to improve his command. Scheppers had a shoulder injury coming out of college but made it through 2010 healthy. The Rangers would like him to work on starting in 2011. Upside potential: If the changeup and command improve, he can be a top-of-the-rotation starter. If not, he could set up or close very successfully. They said it: "Because of the sheer number of innings and the levels he jumped this season, we're backing him off a little bit. He pitched some in instructional league, but we're going to back him off and get him on a good throwing program this winter." -- Rangers assistant GM Thad Levine, on the decision to not have Scheppes pitch winter ball He said it: "For them to give me the chance to be able to start in Spring Training, I'm really happy that they're giving me that shot. Hopefully, I'll just prepare myself and be ready physically and mentally." http://0rz.tw/UOqjV -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 61.227.214.180
