Lewis, on paternity leave, replaced by Kirkman
NEW YORK -- The Rangers recalled left-handed pitcher Michael Kirkman from
Triple-A Round Rock on Friday to replace pitcher Colby Lewis.
Lewis is the first player to be granted paternity leave under new Major
League rules. The new rule allows a team to replace a player for 24-72 hours
while he is away on paternity leave.
Lewis left the team on Wednesday when his wife, Jenny, gave birth to their
second child, Elizabeth Grace, in Bakersfield, Calif. Lewis is expected to
rejoin the team on Monday and pitch Tuesday against the Angels in Arlington.
