Rangers trade Taylor Teagarden to Baltimore

Update: The Rangers acquired RHP Randy Henry and a player to be named later
from Baltimore for Taylor Teagarden.

The Orioles wanted Teagarden to be Matt Wieters' backup at catcher.

Teagarden, who turns 28 on December 21, is now out of minor league options
and would have either had to make the team out of spring training or
potentially be risked to waivers. Teagarden hit .235 in 34 at-bats for the
Rangers last year, but there simply isn't a role for him on the club with
Mike Napoli and Yorvit Torrealba. The only issue facing the Rangers is the
lack of a third catcher who could step up from the minors in case of an
injury to one of the two front-line guys.

Teagarden has been a solid defender behind the plate, but has provided
nothing as a hitter. His slow bat has led to a strikeout every 2.76 plate
appearances over his 350 at-bat career. Among non-pitchers with at least 300
career plate appearances, only Jim Fuller (2.62 from 1973-77) was worse.
