Club recalls Scheppers from Triple-A to fill roster spot

OAKLAND -- The Rangers have placed Derek Holland on the disabled list and
will start Alexi Ogando on Sunday against the Giants. Ogando was 13-8 with a
3.51 ERA for the Rangers as a starter last year, but has been pitching out of
the bullpen this season.

The Rangers called up pitcher Tanner Scheppers from Triple-A Round Rock where
he was 1-2 with a 3.72 ERA and nine saves. He will be making his Major League
debut.

"I'm definitely excited," Scheppers said. "It's unfortunate that I'm up here
to take somebody's spot because of injury but it's definitely a dream come
true. I'll make the most of it."

Holland, who is 5-4 with a 5.10 ERA, has been bothered by a stomach virus for
two weeks and the Rangers do not want him to pitch in a physically weakened
position. He will fly back to Texas and be examined by Dr. Keith Meister on
Friday.
