Lobaton hurt, Chirinos promoted
C Jose Lobaton sprained his left knee in his first start for the Rays and
ended up on the DL. Robinson Chirinos is being called up.
Lobaton said he hurt his knee in the ninth inning while trying to block a
ball in the dirt, and then "felt something crack." Though he said the
ligament sprain is not considered serious, it was disappointing he landed on
the DL after just one start.
"I feel sad," he said.
Chirinos, who impressed in spring training after getting acquired by the Cubs
in the RHP Matt Garza trade, will get his first big-league call-up.

Ashley promoted to Durham
Biscuits catcher Nevin Ashley has been promoted to Triple-A Durham.
David Wendt will go back on Montgomery's active roster.
The moves come after a second injury to a Tampa Bay catcher. Already without
John Jaso, the Rays lost Jose Lobaton tonight. Lobaton left after nine
innings of the Rays' game Sunday night with Boston -- a game that is still
going on went 16 innings and ended at almost 1 a.m. CDT. Robinson Chirinos is
moving from Durham to the Rays and Ashley is filling Chirinos' spot with the
Bulls.
"I'm excited to go," Ashley said. "It's going to be a good chance for me to
go up there and continue to show what I can do. But I'll definitely miss this
group of guys because we're so close."
Ashley played in seven games for Durham at the end of last season but
returned to the Biscuits this year. After hitting a combined .244 the last
two seasons for Montgomery, Ashley has a .280 average this year. He's also
drawn a team-best 36 walks.
Ashley said he's scheduled to be in the lineup Monday night when Durham plays
at Rochester.
