The Spanish giants will try to lure the Arsenal boss away from the Emirates
in the summer.

Real appointed Juande Ramos as manager until the end of the season but the
only way the former Spurs boss will be given a contract extension is if he
wins either La Liga or the Champions League.

With Real a long way adrift in the league and not fancied in the Champions
League, Ramos knows his days are numbered.

That leaves Wenger as the first choice of Real president Ramon Calderon, who
believes he can exploit the unrest behind the scenes at the Emirates to get
his man.

Wenger signed a new deal — which runs until 2011 — in September, 2007, and
has never broken a managerial contract.
Contracts

But Real are well aware of the upheaval in the Arsenal boardroom which this
week saw the ousting of director Lady Nina Bracewell-Smith.

Wenger has spoken about the need for a settled environment since the
departure of close ally David Dein in April last year.

That, though, seems unlikely with billionaires Stan Kroenke and Alisher
Usmanov vying for power at the Emirates.

And there is a growing feeling within the club — and from those who know
Wenger — that he may feel he has taken the club as far as it can go in its
present guise. It has been easy to sense Wenger’s frustration this season as
Arsenal’s youngsters flatter to deceive.

The fear is that Cesc Fabregas — also a target for Real — and Emmanuel
Adebayor will move on in the summer, leaving the club in yet another
transitional period.

The likes of Robin van Persie and Theo Walcott are also in the last 18 months
of their present contracts.
