Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has called for clubs to work with UEFA
and instigate a “European Super League” to ensure the top clubs play each
other all the time.

Perez has recently returned to the Bernabeu and introduced a new ‘galactico’
era at the club, signing Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka and Karim Benzema in an
attempt to bring silverware back to Madrid.

However, according to the News of the World, Perez’s future plans are far more
ambitious and include the dawn of a new European Super League.

The Madrid president insists that this would guarantee the top clubs play each
other more regularly, something that he feels the Champions League does not
always provide.

Speaking about his plan he said, “What we need to work out with UEFA is a
European Super League that guarantees that all the top teams play each other
all the time - something that does not happen in the current Champions League.

Whilst such a league would undoubtedly threaten the continent’s domestic
leagues, Perez was adamant that this should not happen. He insisted his plan
would operate “but without abandoning national leagues.”
