Young midfielder Sergio Canales was one of the star players at the under-19
European Championships earlier this summer and the 19-year-old once again
put in a strong performance in his debut match for Real Madrid on Wednesday.
Canales was one of Madrid's key performers in their 3-2 win against Mexican
side America and the youngster even found the net in his first game for the
Blancos, much to his own delight.
"It is a dream come true to be able to debut with Real Madrid," Canales was
quoted as saying on the official Madrid website.
"I can't wait to continue learning and working for this club. I honestly
didn't think about how my first game was going to be, but everything went
well and scoring made it unforgettable."
The attacking midfielder started his professional career with Racing
Santander, but left the Primera Division side for Real Madrid earlier
this summer. Canales was initially expected to be shipped out on loan
this season, but head coach Jose Mourinho vetoed a loan move and appears
to be ready to give the youngster the chance to prove his worth.
