Maria Angeles Sandoval 'Pitina', the wife of Real Madrid president Florentino
Perez, has passed away on Tuesday after a long battle with lung cancer.

The 62-year-old had been struggling with the illness for several years but
her death comes as a surprise as Pitina was in remission from the disease.

Perez had been married to his wife for 42 years and a host of figures linked
to Los Blancos have gone public with their sympathies for the president and
his family.

Madrid right-back Alvaro Arbeloa took to Twitter to reveal his support to
Perez, writing: "My deepest condolences to our president Florentino Perez and
his family. Much strength. RIP Pitina."

Another person keen to pay his respects was Jose Mourinho's spokesperson,
Eladio Paremes, who used the social networking site to post a similar
message, tweeting: " My deepest condolences to our president Florentino Perez
and his family. Much strength. RIP Pitina. No Twitter today."

Other footballing figures to reveal their sadness at Pitina's death included
former Madrid forward Miguel Angel Mista and Mallorca coach Joaquin Caparros.
