COSTA MESA, Calif. — Daisuke Matsuzaka and his agent, Scott Boras, are
minutes away from jetting off for Boston with the Red Sox’ front office on
John Henry’s private jet. Talks have gone on all night, and the sides have
been working on contract language and incentive-triggering clauses, according
to a source. Talks will continue on the plane.
A preliminary deal has not been reached, said a source, but it is safe to say
that Matsuzaka would not be coming to Boston were he and the Red Sox not
optimistic that a deal could be reached, pending a physical in Boston.
