to trade Julian Tavarez.

The Boston Globe reports that the Red Sox are likely to sign the rehabbing
Brendan Donnelly to a multi-year contract.
Donnelly may miss the entire 2008 season following Tommy John surgery, so
inking him for multiple years is a way for the Red Sox to potentially receive
some value if they can get him healthy. Donnelly might be 37 years old by the
time he pitches again, so there's more risk involved than a typical rehab
project.
