About 50 Carrigan Middle School students were turned away from Yankee Stadium
Tuesday when their bus arrived 45 minutes late for a tour. Parents said
Yankees employees initially promised a shortened tour because of the delay,
but later reneged, leaving many of the kids crushed by the news.

The Red Sox offer came about after a Milford man — and Sox fan — saw the
news story and felt bad for the students.

“When I saw what the Yankees are doing to the poor kids, I said, ‘That’s
unreasonable,’” said Bill Kirkman.

So he e-mailed the Red Sox and asked if they could offer anything to the
school. They called him back by noon and said, “How about a free tour of
Fenway Park?”

Kirkman said it is a shame the Yankees haven’t done anything to make it up
to the students.

“So many times kids are dumped on and they can’t do anything about it. I
bet the kids were disappointed. I know I would be,” he said.

A spokesman for the Yankees referred questions Wednesday to the stadium’s
tour operator, who could not be reached for comment.

Libero said she will look into the possibility of a Fenway Park trip, and in
the meantime, hasn’t given up hope that the Yankees will come through with
something special for the kids.

“They don’t have to send Derek Jeter,” she said.
