Baldelli's knee fine, should be available Tuesday

Rocco Baldelli ran onto the field today wearing a pad on his badly bruised left
knee, but that seemed to be the only evidence of his bone-jarring collision
with the right field stands Saturday.

Baldelli said that he woke up feeling sore but generally fine, and reported no
problems working out today.

He should be available when the Sox take on Detroit Tuesday.

Baldelli started in right field Saturday, and hit a two-run home run to left.
But in the fifth inning, he slid hard into the wall trying to chase down a foul
ball, and had to be removed from the game.


Kotsay should return Tuesday

Five months after undergoing back surgery, and a month after injuring his calf
during his back rehab, Mark Kotsay should finally return to the active roster
Tuesday.

Kotsay began his second rehab stint with Pawtucket last week, and has traveled
with the PawSox on their latest road trip to Louisville and Indianapolis. He
has gone 10-for-33 through his 10 rehab games in Pawtucket.
Jeff Bailey would likely return to Pawtucket when Kotsay comes back.


John Smoltz pitched five innings today with Low-A Greenville against
Charleston. He allowed one run on four hits, walking none and striking out six.
He threw 73 pitches, 52 of them strikes. The outing was Smoltz's most
aggressive rehab start yet. Smoltz plans on making two more rehab starts, both
with Triple A Pawtucket, before making his Red Sox debut in mid-June.
