Baseball Prospectus scouting report
"Perhaps LaRoche should take a vacation at the start of every season and
report to work right after the All-Star break, because it seems that he
throws the first three months away every season. On his career he has hit
.253 (batting average)/.324 (on-base percentage)/.447 (slugging percentage)
in the first half over five years -- or badly enough to lose his job perhaps
anywhere but Pittsburgh -- and .297/.360/.548 afterward, well enough to be a
solid All-Star. Pile it all together in one lump, and you've got an immensely
frustrating player who's pretty good in the aggregate, but keeps leaving you
asking what would happen if he showed up earlier in the year."
LaRoche is 29 years old, 6-foot-3 and 185 pounds, a left-handed hitting and
throwing first baseman who, according to Baseball Prospectus, rated slightly
below average defensively at first base last year.

Kevin Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus says Diaz is a very good defender who
doesn't hit much. He says Strickland is a projectable righty with a fastball
around 90 mph and average secondary stuff.
