As expected, the Mets finished the Billy Wagner trade today by acquiring
Triple-A outfielder Chris Carter and Single-A first baseman Eddie Lora from
the Red Sox.
The Mets thought they would be getting Carter in September, but the Yankees
threw a kink in their plans by claiming him on waivers to force Boston to
pull him back until after the season.
The Mets showed how much they value Carter by immediately adding him to their
40-man roster, which now stands at 38 overall.
Carter, 26, is a power prospect who hit .294 with 16 homers in 116 games for
Pawtucket this season. He batted .333 (6-for-18) with three RBIs in nine
major-league appearances with Boston in 2008.
Lora, meanwhile, is a 20-year-old New York City native who grew up in the
Dominican Republic and was a star in Boston's system there, earning 2008
Latin Program Player of the Year honors.
Lora hit just .222 with two triples and three homers in 34 games for the Gulf
Coast Red Sox this season.
