http://0rz.tw/q26PF Since open season began on free agency, the Red Sox have been diligently kicking the tires on free agents. Today, a few more names can be added to the list, with the Red Sox expressing preliminary interest on free agent shortstop Marco Scutaro, as well as expressing interest and requesting the medical records of right-handers Kelvim Escobar and Rafael Soriano, according to a major-league source. The Red Sox have a vacancy at shortstop, and have maintained contact with free agent Alex Gonzalez. Scutaro represents a better offensive alternative than Gonzalez and is a steady defensive shortstop in his own right. The Red Sox attempted to trade for Scutaro from the Blue Jays this past July. Escobar has not pitched since 2007, had shoulder surgery in June of 2008 and at 34 years old would be just the kind of low-cost, high-upside risk the Red Sox enjoy taking on (see John Smoltz and Brad Penny for details). Soriano, 30, is a proven young right-hander with electric stuff. He grabbed closing duties from Mike Gonzalez in Atlanta in the second half of this season. http://0rz.tw/bUEnJ The Red Sox are "putting on a full-court press" to acquire Roy Halladay, according to a source, and are hoping to add the former Cy Young winner to the top of their rotation to go with Josh Beckett and Jon Lester. "They would love to get it wrapped up before the winter meetings (beginning Dec. 7)," the source said of the Red Sox, who made a big push to deal for Halladay last summer. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 219.87.89.129
