: The deal was agreed to in principle on New Year’s Eve and finalized on Sunday
: night. Beltre turned down more money from at least two teams – he had a
: four-year offer early in free agency and then a three-year deal for roughly
: the same annual value as the deal the Red Sox offered – but he chose Boston
: with an eye on having a big year for a contender and then hitting the market
: again next year.
2010: $7 million this year, $2 million signing bonus.
2011: $5 million player option. Option goes to $10 million with 640 plate
appearances. $1 million buyout with 575 plate appearances.
Bonuses: $50,000 for being an All-Star; $100,000 for a Silver Slugger,
$75,000 for LCS MVP; $100,000 for a Gold Glove; $200,000 for MVP ($125,000
for second, $100,000 for third, $75,000 for fourth, and $50,000 for fifth).
