If it’s the first Friday in February, it must be the day to announce the Red Sox non-roster players who have been invited to major-league spring training camp. The official release from the Red Sox media relations department has been cut-and-pasted immediately below this sentence: “RED SOX INVITE NON-ROSTER PLAYERS TO MAJOR LEAGUE SPRING TRAINING CAMP BOSTON, MA—The Red Sox today announced that 20 players will attend the team’ s Major League Spring Training camp as non-roster invitees. The announcement was made by Executive Vice President/General Manager Theo Epstein. The non-roster invitees are pitchers Randor Bierd, Fernando Cabrera, Kris Johnson, Casey Kelly, Adam Mills, Edwin Moreno, Joe Nelson, Brian Shouse, Jorge Sosa and Kyle Weiland; catchers Luis Exposito and Gustavo Molina; infielders Lars Anderson, Yamaico Navarro, Angel Sanchez and Gil Velazquez; and outfielders Zach Daeges, Ryan Kalish, Che-Hsuan Lin and Darnell McDonald. Half of the 20 invitees have Major League experience, including Bierd, Cabrera, McDonald, Molina, Moreno, Nelson, Sanchez, Shouse, Sosa, and Velazquez. Cabrera and Velazquez both saw action for the Red Sox in 2009. Pitchers and catchers will participate in their first on-field workout in Fort Myers on Saturday, February 20. The first full workout of the Red Sox Spring Training camp is on Wednesday, February 24. All workouts take place at Boston’s Player Development Complex, located at 4301 Edison Avenue. The team will move its spring operation to City of Palms Park when the games begin on Wednesday, March 3. 2010 NON-ROSTER INVITEES -Pitchers (10) Randor Bierd Fernando Cabrera Kris Johnson Casey Kelly Adam Mills Edwin Moreno Joe Nelson Brian Shouse Jorge Sosa Kyle Weiland” -Catchers (2) Luis Exposito Gustavo Molina -Infielders (4) Lars Anderson Yamaico Navarro Angel Sanchez Gil Velazquez -Outfielders (4) Zach Daeges Ryan Kalish Che-Hsuan Lin Darnell McDonald http://is.gd/7MAeS ------ The most interesting group to watch here should be the pitchers as Boston is looking to fill at least one bullpen spot this spring. Most likely not in contention to fill that spot but definitely an exciting player to watch will be Casey Kelly. Kelly, recently named No. 28 on MLB.com's Top 50 prospects list and ranked the No. 1 Sox prospect by soxsprospects.com, recently gave up playing shortstop (where he excelled defensively, yet struggled offensively) to focus on pitching. The 20 year old 2008 first round pick will garner some attention this spring but will likely start the season in Double-A. Two other players to watch will be Lars Anderson and Ryan Kalish. Anderson is a power-hitting first baseman who struggled in his first full year of Double-A ball with the Portland Sea Dogs. The 22 year old will look to prove he is still a valuable prospect who one day could signal the shift of Kevin Youkilis back to third base. Kalish, 21, batted .279, to go along with a .364 OBP, 18 HR, 77 RBI and 21 SB between Single-A and Double-A in 2009. He has the makings of an excellent leadoff hitter with above average range in the outfield as well as mature instincts on the basepaths. Kalish looks to earn a promotion to Triple-A Pawtucket this spring. http://is.gd/7MAyy -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 114.45.186.139
