Dustin Pedroia had a CT scan and MRI this morning and doctors discovered a
non-displaced fracture of the navicular mid-foot bone in his left foot. He
was placed on the disabled list.

Infielder Angel Sanchez is here and has been activated.

Doctors are reviewing the tests. Pedroia will be examined in Boston on
Monday. According to Terry Francona, the medical people do not yet know the
extent of the fracture or how long Pedroia will be out.

Francona said it was too early to speculate on how long Pedroia would be out.

"I don't know that we have a parameter yet," Francona said. "When we know the
severity of it, then we'll have some parameters. I think anybody that's been
around Dustin would bet on him being quicker than anybody humanly possible
healing. But they don't know the extent of it yet."

Francona could not rule out the possibility of surgery.

Francona said Hall would play second base for now, although that is subject
to change.

Dr. George Theodore, an orthopaedic surgeon at Massachusetts General
Hospital, will examine Pedroia on Monday.

Pedroia, who is on crutches with his foot wrapped, told reporters that he was
disappointed but would do all he could to get back as quickly as possible.
