Rockies Lefty Joe Beimel Reportedly on Trading Block, Could Help Boston

If the Rockies head into a fire-sale this weekend, the third-place Boston Red
Sox could be suitable buyers.
According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, the Rockies could be shopping
relievers Joe Beimel and Rafael Betancourt, as well as starters Aaron Cook and
Jorge De La Rosa.
Beimel, a 33-year-old lefty reliever, sports a 2.67 ERA in his 10th MLB
season.
In 30 1/3 innings over 44 appearances, Beimel has struck out just 13 batters
while allowing eight walks and he's holding left-handed hitters to a .183 BA.
The 6-foot-3, 215-pounder appeared in just 10 of his 505 career appearances in
an AL uniform, but he would certainly be a welcomed sight to Boston's 'pen.
Betancourt, a right-hander with 42 appearances this season, sports a 4.50 ERA
in 36 innings pitched. He's been in his last 12 appearances, however, as he's
struck out 12, walked one, and has allowed just two runs in 10 2/3 innings,
which is good for a 1.69 ERA. The eight-year veteran reliever has a career
3.27
ERA. When the Sox visited Denver back in late June, Sox fans saw him get
touched up for two runs on two hits over two innings when he appeared in two
innings against the AL East club.
Cook, who is due to make close to $10 million next season, and De La Rosa, a
free agent this offseason, are both starters and are likely off the Sox' radar
for now.
