Pedroia scratched

His left foot is sore. Jed Lowrie will play second and bat second.

UPDATE, 6:40 p.m.: Pedroia did not seem to think it was anything significant,
just the expected soreness given his long layoff. He had trouble sleeping
last night because of the pain.

He admitted he was stupid to steal second in the first inning yesterday,
saying that didn't help matters.

This will be the first time Lowrie has played since he was felled by heat
exhaustion in Texas on Friday.

Salty goes on DL; Brown is recalled

Jarrod Saltalamacchia has an infection of some sort and Dusty Brown was
called up.

More info as it becomes available.

UPDATE. 4:19 p.m.: Just when you think nothing else can go wrong with this
team. Saltalamacchia had a sore lower right leg yesterday and was sent over
to Mass General to get it checked on.

Turns out it's an infection. Tests have ruled out the MRSA virus. They're
checking on staph now. He's in the hospital hooked up to IV antibiotics.

The hope is Saltalamacchia will feel better in a day or two. But in the
meantime, the Sox needed a catcher and Brown was called up.
