Jose Iglesias, SS, Rank: 42 2010 Rank: 45 Signed: September 8, 2009 ETA in Majors: 2012 Statistically speaking: For all the talk about his glove, Iglesias was hitting .306 when a pitch broke his finger at the end of May. That would have been good for second in the Double-A Eastern League. Scouting report: Most of the buzz surrounding Iglesias involves his defense, and for good reason. He's ready to play shortstop in the big leagues, and at a Gold Glove-caliber level, right now. His arm, range, footwork and instincts are all above-average to plus. But he's no slouch at the plate. He handles the bat well and makes consistent contact. He should hit for decent average and a little extra-base pop. Upside potential: A highlight reel at short who handles the bat well enough to be a No. 2 hitter and an All-Star. They said it: "Definitely as-advertised, and just a special talent, and a good kid. He works his butt off every day. He's put some good at-bats together at the plate. We've got to remember that this is a kid who should probably be in rookie ball right now, and he's in Double-A, and he's competing, and he's one of the better players in the league." -- Portland manager Arnie Beyeler in The Providence Journal, prior to Iglesias' injury He said it: "I want my offense and my defense to be great. I struggled a little bit reading the pitchers, but I'm getting better." http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=13096719&topic_id=16431558 --- John Sickels' Book Excerpts Jose Iglesias, SS, Boston Red Sox Bats: R Throws: R HT: 5-11 WT: 175 DOB: January 5, 1990 Jose Iglesias will have more value to a real baseball team than he will to a fantasy squad. Scouts love his defense, rating his hands, range, and arm strength as excellent in all respects. He's reliable, too, making just seven errors in 57 defensive games last year. Interestingly his range factor was actually way below average, but minor league defensive range stats are problematic. It will be interesting to see if that holds true in subsequent seasons, given how much scouts love his glove. His bat is a question. He makes contact and can hit for average, but his approach is very aggressive and he lacks power, making his offensive value entirely reliant on his batting average. The Red Sox believe he will add more pop in time, although observers from other organizations aren't as sanguine. I'll go with a Grade B here, on the theory that his glove will make him a valuable regular for a long time, but keep in mind that his fantasy value won't be as good, not unless his offense develops more than I expect, or unless you're in a fantasy context where defense matters. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2011/1/26/1953237/more-book-excerpts -- ※ 編輯: Westmoreland 來自: 118.160.65.224 (01/27 17:33)
