仔細聽了兩遍
發覺這張專輯很特別
出道14年的keith
雖然是屬於90年代的artist
而且90年代是他第一個完整的10年
但是不代表他的生命源流會乾涸
88年的debut-Make It Last Forever
27歲的他將其年輕活力用在專輯的八首作品上
最暢銷的一首是Make It Last Forever
keyboard出身的他帶著Teddy Riley走跳全美各州大小舞池
90年的I'll Give All My Love To You
是評價最高的一張專輯
採用華麗的節奏編曲
流暢的interlude及fade up
和當時人還在芝城的R.Kelly(12 play)是東岸炙手可熱的新星
隔年的第三張專輯Keep It Comin'出版的有些倉促
為了配合new jack city的ost
他供獻了Tellin' Me No Again (There You Go)這首曲子
ll cool j和Joe Public也在這裡參了一腳
94年Get Up On It是他自組KEIA這個製作公司會的新作
他開始收弟子如ol skool,Kut Klose
並加入更多的元素如roger troutman的talk box
Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes的唸歌
當然曲與曲的過度橋段更是不可少的
這是繼I'll Give All My Love To You後較有概念的一張唱片
96年的同名專輯Keith Sweat是一張流行取向的專輯
Twisted,Nobody,Yumi,Freak With Me都有這點味道

這算是張平易近人的pop之作
兩年後的Still In The Game搭上了硬蕊饒舌的風潮
聽來有點硬硬的
短小精悍是他在98年的風格
我覺得這是他遇到了瓶頸的一張作品
與事者有Jermaine Dupri,Too $hort,Snoop Dogg,Erick Sermon
Didn't See Me Coming是他00年的作品
一個始終耕耘R&B的黑種子出版了七張專輯的確不易
更不易的是他老人家一直待在Elektra
似乎嗅得一點keith步入中年的味道...穩重
加入了Rodney Jenkins的舞曲groove
新秀黑妹Lil' Mo的獻聲
不出collection的他這次貢獻17首歌
那時我還以為他要引退了
終於
今年他的Rebirth即將出現
就個人淺見寫些聽了KS十幾年的感想
因為他未曾出現官方版的精選(日版和歐版除外)
這張第八張大碟有著里程碑的意味

前六首是提供"現在"的市場需求
稍微old school的感覺
第七首到第11首藉由"trun the lights down"的不斷出現營造一種呢喃氣氛
試圖給予聽者某種概念
些許類似I'll Give All My Love To You的呈現方式
12到15首是最精緻的部份
Can I Be是首六分鐘長度的歌曲
比Nobody和I'll Trade (A Million Bucks)更棒的男女對唱曲
末兩首是他在D.C的live版
Live Bonus Track確實是種回顧
用聲音交代出道近十五年的作品
有什麼比這樣的表現更貼切呢
曲中用合聲,用自白,用R.Kelly式在bump n grind的nothing's wrong神經質唱法
用Marvin Gaye的假音和性感的群眾呼應
是我最感動的一首
還不知道Rebirth的製作credits是哪些人(Roy Hamilton...)
不過在看了參與聲音演出的人員可以得知
Keith Sweat用嚴謹的態度傳承正統R&B的意圖
在日新月異的美國樂壇是少有的異數
不論有沒有聽過他的歌
他都是值得尊敬的一個黑種子!
