背景:
這首歌講的是北美西進運動時期，白人對當地印弟安土著部落犯下的種種罪行:燒殺擄掠無
所不為，傳統信仰與部落全數被破壞殆盡，印弟安人的財富跟土地也被搶劫一空。 這首歌
站在印弟安人的角度，為殖民主義下的受害者們發出強烈的怒吼， 非常值得殖民主義者反
思。身為曾經是世界最大的殖民帝國英國的子民， 鐵媽卻站在被殖民者的角度去反對殖民
主義，是很不容易的。 意義深遠的歌詞、簡單易記的旋律與膾炙人口的副歌共同構築了這
首經典名曲。
