Carl Landry turned out to be quite a bargain as the Houston Rockets'
second-round draft pick.
The rookie from Purdue averaged 8.1 points and 4.9 rebounds to help an
injury-plagued team reach the playoffs.
He played in 42 games and worked his way into coach Rick Adelman's rotation by
January.

"I'm glad I had the opportunity, and I'm looking to grow on it."

For most of the second half, the 6-7 small forward was the first frontcourt
player off the bench for the Rockets, who lost to Utah in the first round.
"I didn't have any expectations. I knew anything I brought to the team at a
rookie level was a bonus," Landry said. "Coach gave me a chance. Gradually, I
got better and grew as a player and listened to what the coaches and veterans
had to tell me."

Landry had his best game against Indiana, going for a season-high 22 points on
9-for-11 shooting Feb. 1 as the Rockets beat the Pacers 106-103 at Conseco
Fieldhouse.
Landry was named to the 10-player all-rookie team selected by the NBA's 30
coaches, nice recognition for a second-team all-area player in Milwaukee as a
high school senior.
He was named to the all-rookie team ahead of top-10 picks like Jeff Green,
Brandan Wright and Joakim Noah. Landry was 19th in the NBA's efficien
per 48 minutes.

Landry will be a restricted free agent this summer but wants to return to
Houston, and the Rockets' front office has said it will match any offer he
receives.
Landry said he has a focused list for offseason improvement. "Better passing,
shooting the 3-pointer, creating my own shot but at the same time trying to
stay within my game," he said.
