Budinger's return hailed by teammates
Rockets starters say they are glad to yield their minutes to rookie forward
off the bench

Chase Budinger hobbled back to his locker room stall Saturday night,
his right ankle wrapped in ice.

The severe sprain that sidelined the Rockets rookie forward for seven games
remains an issue,
but he'll play through the injury.
And even at his estimated 85 percent, Budinger is special.
Danilo Gallinari wasn't consulted for comment,
but the Knicks forward, trailing in futile pursuit,
had the best view of Budinger's breakaway dunk in the fourth quarter
of the Rockets' 105-96 victory Saturday night at Toyota Center.

It seemed like an emphatic flush, but Budinger, 6-7, was disappointed.
“I feel like I can't jump like I usually do,” he said. “Even that dunk —
 that's not a normal jump for me.
 I didn't get up, so I'm a little frustrated because of it.
“Hopefully it will come back, and I know it will. It's just going to take
time.”

Fittingly, his return will also take time — away from Shane Battier and
Trevor Ariza, that is.
And in that case, it's welcome.
“We were real thin on the wings, so Trevor and I had to play big minutes,”
 Battier said.
“Sometimes, when you play big minutes, you're not as productive. With Chase
back, we can expand our rotation.
“You can almost play harder, because you know you have a great guy coming in
that can change the game.
 We really missed him, and we're excited he's back.”

In Budinger's absence, the Rockets were 4-3.
But Battier surpassed his season average of 33.1 minutes in five of those
games,
including two games of 40-plus minutes.

Overworked starters
And Ariza, who is 10th in the NBA in minutes at 38.7, topped 40 minutes
during that span twice.
Budinger's production might not seem significant —
he averages eight points and 3.1 rebounds in 18.4 minutes —
but his presence is, especially to a second unit that is relied on for energy
off the bench.

“He gives us another scoring threat,” guard Kyle Lowry said.
“Having Chase back helps us space the floor a little more, give Trevor more
rest.
 He's a great 3-point shooter, a great player — it's good to have him back.
“We missed him.”

For Budinger, 21, who said his ankle is usually sore after practices and
games, it's a matter of familiarity.
Familiar substitutes
He scored eight points Saturday against the Knicks,
making three of his seven field goals in his third game back from injury.
“We've played 40 games, and Coach (Rick Adelman) puts us in at certain times
so we have roles,” Budinger said.
“We know when we're coming in, and we know who we're playing with. You get
accustomed to each other.
“So yeah, there was something missing out there when I wasn't playing,
 but that's just because we're so used to playing with each other for so many
games.”
二十一歲的布丁狗說他常常在練習與比賽後感到酸痛.
