Seeing how Rockets general manager Daryl Morey hasn't asked for my help in forever,
I'm hoping someone slips this column under his door.
There is no advice like free advice, and I'm nothing if not cheap.
OK, here goes. If New Orleans point guard Chris Paul becomes available,
Morey has to be first in line.

Now you're being silly. Besides, I have no idea if Morey reads the newspaper.
He might spend his spare time plucking his eyebrows for all I know.
He might not know Paul is unhappy.

Anyway, there are a couple of small hurdles
between the Rockets and having Paul, 25, lead them to the Western Conference finals.
One is the Hornets might not even trade him.
Paul might be plotting an exit strategy,
but he needs the Hornets to play along because he's signed for two more years.
然而火箭隊要能得到Paul還是有一些難關需要解決.

Paul's departure from New Orleans would be as crushing to the Hornets
as LeBron James' exit was to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Hornets have a new coach (Monty Williams) and general manager (Dell Demps),
and they'll surely spend some time attempting to convince Paul to give them a chance to upgrade the roster.
Another problem is Paul has expressed zero interest in playing for the Rockets.
But Paul has no say in where he goes, and unless he wants to take a couple of years off, he'll play for the team that acquires him.

This is where Morey's yearlong pursuit of Chris Bosh could pay off.
Morey has spent the past 14 months accumulating young players
and an extra first-round draft pick hoping to convince Bosh to play for the Rockets.
Morey當初為了追求Bosh所累積的籌碼要派上用場了.

Unless the Lakers deal Andrew Bynum, no team seems likely to make the Hornets a better offer than the Rockets.
Franchises have few opportunities to acquire a player as good as Paul.
If you ranked the NBA's top 10 players,
he'd be somewhere on the list, perhaps below only Kobe Bryant, James, Dwyane Wade, Kevin Durant and Carmelo Anthony.
The Rockets have gotten better this offseason with the return of Yao Ming and the addition of Brad Miller.
Before you write and tell me Yao will get hurt, you could be correct, but he's a risk the Rockets have to take.
He's the only player on their roster in the NBA's top three at his position.
He's one of those rare players who is impossible to replace.
Yes, the Rockets are placing a lot of faith in a fragile left foot,
but to this point, they have no reason to believe he can't come back and be productive.

對, 他的左腳踝或許不是那麼令人放心,
但是球隊對於他的歸來還是充滿信心.

All eyes on Yao
靠你啦姚明

They'll be conservative with his playing time, but because he was under contract,
keeping him was by far their best option.
Yao and Miller make the Rockets a likely playoff team again. Continuity will help as well.
Morey has made huge changes in a short time.
Only Yao, Shane Battier, Aaron Brooks and Chuck Hayes were around for the start of training camp two years ago.
Yao, Kevin Martin, Jordan Hill, Patrick Patterson and Miller weren't on the roster at the beginning of the 2009 season.
Having them together for a full training camp should cut down on the turnovers and improve the team defense.
But the Rockets need another special player. Brooks had a good season, but he is not the elite player Paul is.
球隊會小心翼翼處理他的上場時間.
姚明跟大米會讓火箭隊重返季後賽.
Morey在極短的時間內就帶來相當大的改變,
只有姚明, Battier, 小AB還有Hayes是兩年前開季看的到的陣容.
姚明, 馬丁大夫, J.Hill, PP還有大米都不在09的開季陣容之中.
能夠讓這群人聚在一起做完整的訓練應該能夠有效減少失誤, 加強團隊防守.
不過火箭隊還需要一個關鍵的球員. 小AB打的不錯, 不過他終究不是CP3等級的.

Patience is a virtue
耐心是美德

When Morey didn't get Bosh, he held fast. Other than James and Wade, none of the other big-money free agents interested him.
Rather than make a questionable deal, he held firm.
當Morey失去了Bosh, 他就不再有動作了.
因為除了LBJ跟Wade, 還沒有什麼大咖能引起他注意.

Morey might not do anything else between now and the beginning of training camp, but he has positioned himself to make a deal.
Paul might be his best option, but Anthony, Danny Granger or Andre Iguodala could be available.
或許從現在到訓練營開始Morey都不會有動作了, 不過他早就做好交易的準備.
CP3或許是目前看來最好的目標, 不過Anthony, Granger 還有 Iguodala也值得觀察.

And if Morey does nothing, we'll have a team that plays unselfishly and with energy and toughness, a team that never backs down.
Some of Morey's options might be better than others, but all are pretty good.
就算Morey今年不再做任何的交易或補強, 我們也已經擁有一支無私而且充滿活力的球隊.
Morey對於補強球隊有很多的選擇性,
像CP3這樣的球員就是很誘人的, 不過Morey總是會做出正確的判斷.
