Thunder – The defending Western Conference champions have back-to-back games against the Warriors and Trail Blazers on the road. A matchup with the Rockets would pit James Harden against former teammates Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook. 2. Spurs – Battling the Thunder for the top spot, the Spurs could be inclined to rest players (like Tony Parker) next week, especially in a back-to-back against the Lakers and Warriors, and remain in second and a matchup with the Rockets. 3. Nuggets – The Nuggets currently hold the third seed, would face the Rockets if the Rockets move up to sixth and would have reason to seek a strong finish while replacing Danilo Gallinari and bringing back Ty Lawson. 4. Clippers – The Clippers are a long shot to catch Denver, which owns the tie-breaker, for the No. 3 seed. But as Pacific Division champs, they’re guaranteed no worse than No. 4, so the Rockets may not see Blake Griffin or Chris Paul. 5. Grizzlies – The Grizzlies are chasing the Nuggets for the third seed but if they don’t catch them would fall to fifth and out of a potential matchup with the Rockets.
